February 19, 2014

Houston, TX – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee nominated Yank Barry for the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize.  “Yank Barry has committed his life to helping others and bringing about peace through food security and helping people recover from crises and to support nutrition and development in impoverished countries. Yank Barry should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for all his work to eradicate hunger and for his humanitarian efforts throughout the world to bring about peace, stated Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.”

Yank Barry’s Foundation, Global Village Champions Foundation, has been the first on the ground in many disaster stricken area’s worldwide and has provided food, medical aid, shelter & clothing for the lost and forgotten; breaking through red tape and political barriers to help those most in need.  “Because of his tremendous work, I recently recognized him with the Humanitarian Uplift Award on the floor of the United States House of Representatives to honor him for his tremendous work to bring about peace and prosperity as a world humanitarian”, stated Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.

Yank Barry singlehandedly spearheaded a never before accomplished mission to rescue over 60 individuals from the deplorable conditions in the refugee camps of Bulgaria. He continues to support the rescued families by providing a “safe-house” where children and their families are given a place to call home, food, medical care, employment, legal assistance, education and other ongoing provisions. He also has been and continues to be instrumental in keeping peace amongst Bulgarian government officials and groups in the Syrian refugee crisis. He has crossed religious and economic boundaries for the helpless victims of the Syrian war; giving new life to Muslims & Christians, as a Jew.His Foundation, Global Village Champions Foundation, and his longtime friend and partner Muhammad Ali have successfully fed nearly 1 billion documented and delivered meals, all privately funded by Mr. Barry.

Yank Barry’s tireless work to negotiate with Muammar al-Gadaffi in 2007 to save the lives of the “Benghazi Six” was unprecedented. His efforts spared the lives of four Muslims and two Christians in Libya. As a result, two of them; one doctor and one nurse, now volunteer their time and give their lives to help the Syrian refugee’s in the Global Village Champions Foundation safe-house project in Bulgaria and remain dear friends of Mr. Barry.

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee was joined by her congressional colleagues Congressman Al Green of Texas and Danny Davis of Illinois in nominating Yank Barry.
