STATEMENT FROM CONGRESSWOMAN SHEILA JACKSON LEE REGARDING TRAGIC LOSS OF LIFE IN MINE DISASTER IN TURKEY

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Homeland Security Committee, released the following statement regarding the tragic loss of more than 300 miners killed or presumed death following the collapse of a mine in Soma, Turkey:
“My thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of miners killed in the collapse of a mine in Soma, Turkey. It is imperative that every avenue be pursued to rescue any and all miners who may have survived the mine collapse, the deadliest industrial disaster in Turkey’s history. I also express my appreciation to the Americans who have been assisting our Turkish friends in doing everything possible to rescue any survivors and to help those affected cope with heartbreaking losses resulting from this unspeakable tragedy.
