Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee Statement on the Resignation of the Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein

Jackson Lee: “History will undoubtedly recount his courage from 2017—Mr.  Rosenstein’s appointment of Robert Mueller has been an essential public service to our nation’s understanding of how the world’s oldest democracy was subverted by a hostile foreign power.”

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations, and senior member of the House Committees on Judiciary, Homeland Security, and Budget issued this statement on the announced resignation of Rod Rosenstein as Deputy Attorney General:

“Earlier today, the Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein announced his resignation from a post in which he has honorably served since April 2017.  History will undoubtedly recount his courage from 2017—Mr. Rosenstein’s decision to appoint Robert Mueller as the Special Counsel investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election, and whether that crime was aided and abetted with associates of the Trump Campaign.  News reports indicate that Mr. Rosenstein will not depart the Department of Justice until the United States Senate confirms the President’s nominee to serve as Attorney General, Bill Barr, and nonetheless until the Special Counsel has submitted his final report.

“The investigation launched by Mr. Rosenstein’s appointment of Robert Mueller has been an essential public service to our nation’s understanding of how the world’s oldest democracy was subverted by a hostile foreign power.

“During his tenure as the Deputy Attorney General, Mr. Rosenstein appeared before the House Judiciary Committee and provided important information on the contours of the investigation.  Now that voters have delivered a new Democratic majority to the House of Representatives, I hope DAG Rosenstein finds time, before he departs, to reappear before the newly-constituted Judiciary Committee.  I suspect that my colleagues and I have a few questions for him before he departs.”
