Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee Statement on the Anniversary of the September 11 Attacks

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations, and senior member of the House Committees on Judiciary, Homeland Security, and Budget issued this statement on the Anniversary of September 11th terror attacks:

"Seventeen years ago, a day of unimaginable horror and terror was visited upon our nation at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Thousands of souls were lost, and countless lives were irreparably changed. In the days after that event, Americans repurposed ourselves to the unity and the patriotism that are the hallmarks of our great republic. Seventeen years later, my heart still grieves for those who perished on flights United Airlines 93, American Airlines 77, American Airlines 11, and United Airlines 175. In this time, I call on my fellow Americans to summon the bipartisan spirit that emerged the days following the 9/11 attacks, and move forward with the task of doing the country's work, imbued with a sense of purpose and goodwill."

Congresswoman Jackson Lee is a Democrat from Texas's 18th Congressional District. She is a senior member of the House Committees on Judiciary and Homeland Security and is Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security, and Investigations.
