CONGRESSWOMAN SHEILA JACKSON LEE STATEMENT ON DECEMBER JOBS REPORT

January 8, 2016

Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee released the following statement today after the Department of Labor announced that the economy added 292,000 jobs in December. With businesses adding 275,000 jobs last month, December represents the 70th consecutive month of private sector job growth:

"December's robust jobs numbers represent strong progress for the economy. Overall for 2015, 2.65 million jobs have been created – the second best year of job gains since 1999. We have reached yet another milestone for our economy: 70 months of uninterrupted private sector job creation totaling 14.1 million jobs. Yet the American people need and deserve more action to raise wages.

"Congress must spend 2016 working to create more good-paying jobs and raise the paychecks of hard-working American families. However, Republicans' first act of the New Year was to renew their tired, dead-end obsession with attacking women's health.

"Republicans' radical priorities are all too clear. While Republicans try to take family planning and life-saving preventive care away from America's women, Democrats will be working to create jobs, grow our economy and increase the paychecks of America's working families."
