Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee Statement in Support of Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi to Serve as the
Speaker of the House of Representatives
Jackson Lee—"I invite all of my new colleagues to do what they must—investigate and assess—and then look for the best way to unite behind an effective leader. I trust your judgment, but I also believe that your conclusion will be similar to mine: that Nancy Pelosi should lead this House and be the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the 116th Congress."
Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a Senior Member of the House Committees on Judiciary, Homeland Security, and Budget, and the Ranking Member on the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations, issued this statement in support of Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi to serve as Speaker of the House of Representatives during the 116th Congress:
"Now that members of Congress have returned to Washington, D.C., our most important job in the lame duck session, and in the beginning days of January 2019, is to achieve success on behalf of the American people. Our first task in that effort is to select a strong, smart and compassionate leader. I believe that person should be Nancy Pelosi. I invite all of my new colleagues to do what they must—investigate and assess—and then look for the best way to unite behind an effective leader. I trust your judgment, but I also believe that your conclusion will be similar to mine: that Nancy Pelosi should lead this House and be the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the 116th Congress."
Sheila Jackson Lee, a Democrat representing the 18th Congressional District of Texas, is a senior member of the House Committees on Judiciary, Homeland Security and the Budget. She is a Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security, and Investigations.
