Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a Senior Member of the House Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees, released the following statement inviting James W. Porter, II, the President of the National Rifle Association’s (NRA), and Wayne LaPierre NRA Executive Vice-President and CEO, to meet with her and local clergy and community leaders to discuss solutions to end the epidemic of gun violence:

“Since the NRA Annual Meeting is being held in my congressional district, I think it is important to reach out to NRA leaders to discuss solutions for preventing gun violence prevention and passing legislation requiring universal background checks for all gun sales which is supported by 89 percent of Houstonians and by 87 percent of Americans nationwide. I look forward to meeting with Mr. Porter and Mr. LaPierre.”
