CONGRESSWOMAN SHEILA JACKSON LEE DEMANDS FOR VOTE ON FULL EMERGENCY FUNDING PACKAGE TO DEAL WITH THE BORDER CRISIS
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a Senior Member of the House Homeland Security Committee, released the following statement after some House conservatives called for a vote this week on a resolution declaring that President Obama already has ‘the necessary tools at his disposal’ to address the flood of undocumented minors arriving from Central America:
“Today I call upon Speaker Boehner to immediately bring to the floor for debate the emergency supplemental which fully funds the $3.7 billion requested by the President to deal with the humanitarian crisis on our southern border. This must be done before Congress adjourns for the August recess. It would be irresponsible to do otherwise.
“The influx of unaccompanied minors across the southern border is a complex humanitarian crisis that requires swift action to prevent and respond to the serious challenges it is creating.
“I deplore the continued Republican maneuvering and their special-interest agenda of obstruction and dysfunction. While Democrats work provide border agencies with sufficient funding and resources to deal with the humanitarian crisis, Republicans are wasting time and taxpayer dollars on another hypocritical, partisan and preposterous lawsuit against the President.”
