CONGRESSWOMAN SHEILA JACKSON LEE CONDEMNS TERRORIST ATTACK IN LAHORE, PAKISTAN
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a Senior Member of the House Homeland Security Committee, Co-Chair of the Congressional Pakistan Caucus, and Founder and Co-Chair of the Congressional Children’s Caucus released the following statement today regarding the horrific attack in the eastern Pakistan city of Lahore, which killed at least 72 persons and injured more than 340 others:
“The people of Houston and the 18th Congressional District stand in solidarity with the people and Government of Pakistan at this difficult hour. Our prayers and sympathies are with the families and loved ones of those killed and injured. We stand in solidarity with the people of Pakistan as they respond to and recover from the terrible tragedy in Lahore.
“Attacks like these only deepen the shared resolve of the civilized world to defeat terrorism in Pakistan and around the world. Pakistanis want peace and safety, and demand justice for those victims who were targeted for attack on Easter Sunday simply because they were believing Christians.
“I urge the leaders of America’s Pakistani communities to gather in Washington, D.C. at the earliest feasible time to discuss ideas and collectives measures to be taken in support the people of Pakistan in the effort to defeat the Taliban and end the violence in their land.”
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee is a Democrat from Texas’s 18th Congressional District. She is a senior member of the House Committees on Judiciary and Homeland Security and is Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security, and Investigations
