Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee Commends NASA and JPL on the Arrival of the Lander Insight on the Planet Mars

Jackson Lee—“It is often said that ‘great achievement knows no roadmap.’  Insight’s mission to Mars is to study seismic activity, to ultimately determine whether the Red Planet once did, or could in the future, support life.  I hope Insight and NASA achieve its goals, and so much more.  In the meanwhile, we are left with the promise and the wonder of what Insight will yield, and what achievement will surely follow.  I congratulate all at NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.”

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a Senior Member of the House Committees on Judiciary, Homeland Security, and Budget, and the Ranking Member on the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations, and a former member of the House Committee on Science, Space & Technology, issued this statement following news that NASA and JPL had successfully launched and delivered the Lander Insight to Mars:

“I commend NASA for its remarkable accomplishment in delivering the Insight Lander on the surface of the Planet Mars.  This is an extraordinary moment for NASA, our nation, and especially the countless staff at NASA—the scientists, analysts and all who supported this mission, especially those in my hometown of Houston, where NASA has a home at the Johnson Space Center—who helped make this day possible.  Insight’s landing on Mars is a function of many things: it represents a faith and belief in science and facts; it is a testament to teamwork, and what can have accomplished when people put mission and country, above self; and it represents the limitless possibilities of space, as a source of knowledge, inspiration and awe.

“It is often said that ‘great achievement knows no roadmap.’  Insight’s mission to Mars is to study seismic activity, to ultimately determine whether the Red Planet once did or could in the future support life.  I hope Insight and NASA achieve its goals, and so much more.  In the meanwhile, we are left with the promise and the wonder of what Insight will yield, and what achievement will surely follow.  I congratulate all at NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.”
