CONGRESSWOMAN SHEILA JACKSON LEE ANNOUNCES $325,000 GRANT AWARDED TO GREATER HOUSTON FAIR HOUSING CENTER TO COMBAT HOUSING DISCRIMINATION

September 25, 2013

“This important Grant will help combat housing discrimination by ensuring compliance with nation’s fair housing laws in Houston and Harris County”

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior ember of the House Judiciary Committee, released the following statement announcing the award of a $325,000 grant to the Greater Houston Fair Housing Center from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to facilitate compliance with fair housing laws in Houston and Harris County:

“I am pleased to announce this substantial grant awarded to the Greater Houston Fair Housing Center, which will enable the organization to continue its vital work in the area of increasing compliance with the nation’s fair housing laws. The initiatives funded by this grant promote fair housing enforcement, outreach and education, and equal housing opportunity awareness. The fair housing initiatives also play a vital role in enhancing civil rights law enforcement efforts.”

“I have always been an avid supporter of the rights of all Americans, regardless of race, family status, age, sex, national origin, or religion to receive fair and equal treatment regarding housing. The funding the Greater Houston area has received pursuant to the Fair Housing Initiative Grant Program that I have strongly supported has and is making a difference in the 18th Congressional District of Texas and across the nation. As we move forward as a country, it is important that we continue to eradicate discrimination in all areas of society. Fair housing initiatives and continued vigilance help us to do that.”
