Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee Announces $241,990 United States Department of Health and Human Services Grant Awarded to University of Houston To Support Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolic Research

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee announced today that the University of Houston has been awarded a $241,990 grant from the United States Department of Health and Human Services:

“I am pleased to announce that the United States Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a grant in the amount of $241,990 to the University of Houston to conduct Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolic Research. This grant will enable the University of Houston to continue to provide cutting edge research to understand and help mediate "painful bladder syndrome,” otherwise known as Interstitial Cystitis. The research that will be conducted will enhance our understanding of women’s health issues and create new interventions to help women who suffer from this chronic condition.

“I am a strong supporter of the grants awarded by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, including its Division of The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases which provides services to institutions that seek to make discoveries to change the course of medicine.

“I congratulate The University of Houston for winning this grant and thank the United States Department of Health and Human Services for recognizing the University’s excellence and  continued to strive for innovation.

I am proud to have advocated and supported the legislation that authorized the funding that made this grant possible.
