CONGRESSWOMAN SHEILA JACKSON LEE AND THE GOSPEL MUSIC HERITAGE FOUNDATION WELCOME LEGENDARY GOSPEL RECORDING ARTIST RANCE ALLEN TO HOUSTON, TEXAS

September is Gospel Music Heritage Month as proclaimed by H. Con. Res. 370 which was introduced by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. During that month “gospel music” is honored for its value and longstanding contributions to the culture of the United States, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee introduced the historic resolution and led its passage in both the United States House and Senate with bi-partisan support. By the invitation of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee on Tuesday February 26th, in Houston, TX, The Museum of Fine Arts, in association KTSU, Gospel Music Heritage Foundation and Tyscot will host a special screening of the film documentary Music Majors: The Rance Allen Group hosted by Yolanda Adams. The Congresswoman released the following statement:

‘The Legendary Rance Allen Group has impacted the careers and lives of many artists in the music industry with their music style and hearts of gold. Recently, the group shared personal moments of their family history and musical journey in their new documentary, ‘Music Majors: The Rance Allen Group.’ So far, the group has received a great response from fans and supporters across the country.

“Gospel music is an American art form that has spanned hundreds of years and across several generations and has touched millions of lives around the world while demonstrating its profound ability to transcend secular musical genres. Gospel music reaches all denominations and racial groups. From the Tennessee Valley, to the Appalachia, to New York to Houston, to Mississippi to Atlanta gospel music is sung by many different people all over the United States and the world.

“Gospel Music speaks to everyone and the Gospel Music legislation is important because it highlights all of those stories of gospel music and the early leaders in gospel music. The influence of it can be found infused in all forms of secular music including rock & roll, country, R&B, and countless other styles. I am thankful that we have designated the month of September as Gospel Music Heritage Month which will celebrate and honor the heritage of gospel music.

“Now fans in Houston, TX area will have the FIRST opportunity to host a LIVE screening of this groundbreaking documentary and the opportunity to meet and talk with the living Legend Bishop Rance Allen. The screening will take place at The Museum of Fine Arts, 1001 Bissonnet Street Houston, TX 77005 and doors will open at 5:30pm and admission is free.

“Immediately following the screening, fans will have the opportunity to chat with the Bishop Rance Allen during a special Q&A panel discussion. The panel will also include, Yolanda Adams, Songwriter V. Michael McKay, Charles Hudson from KTSU-FM, Carl Davis of Gospel Music Heritage Foundation and Tyscot Records A&R Director, Sidney L. Scott

“Music Majors: The Rance Allen Group, chronicles the life of Rance, Tom and Steve Allen from their early days in Monroe, OH to becoming Grammy Award nominees and performing on BET’s Celebration of Gospel. Music Majors features rare interviews with Kirk Franklin, James Fortune, Isaac Caree, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Keith Wonderboy Johnson, Shirley Murdock, Paul Porter and more.”
