CONGRESSWOMAN JACKSON LEE REFLECTS ON THE LIFE OF RODNEY KING

WASHINGTON, Jun 18, 2012 -

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee released the following statement regarding the death of Rodney King:

“Rodney King’s life had the ups and downs of any ordinary person. He himself expressed regrets for the many incidences in his life. However, the travails of his life do not diminish the power of the incident that showed the excessiveness of law enforcement to the world. I believe everyone now in law enforcement are better off by having had the civil rights division of the Department of Justice bring about justice.

“Rodney King is famous because of what happened in California some years back. He gave us the famous words ‘Can we all just get along?’ His death is a sad occurrence for his family and friends but his Memoir - The Riot Within: My Journey from Rebellion to Redemption - will provide us with a thoughtful and provocative statement of how we can all overcome and how we all should get along.”
