PRESS STATEMENT FROM CONGRESSWOMAN SHEILA JACKSON LEE REGARDING THE DEATH OF HOUSTON FIRE FIGHTER DANIEL GROOVER

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee released the following statement regarding the death of Houston Fire Fighter Daniel Groover:

"I want to express my condolences to the family of Houston Fire Fighter Daniel Groover who lost his life fighting a fire on Wednesday. The City of Houston stands in solidarity with his family, the members of the Houston Fire Department, and entire Houston community, as we mourn the loss of this remarkable and selfless hero who represented the best of the Houston community and exemplified the qualities of firefighters serving communities throughout the Nation for 21 years.

"The mission of the Houston Fire Department is to serve with courage, commitment, and compassion, which were demonstrated through the actions of firefighter Daniel Groover. The Firemen's Creed states, ‘I have no ambition in this world but one and that is to be a firefighter. But, above all, our proudest endeavor is to save lives of men the work of GOD himself.'

"The bravery, devotion to duty, and love of community of this fallen hero has forever earned him a place in the hearts and memories of the citizens of Houston, Texas, because he willingly risked his life to protect us, and he is a testament to the spirit of public service embodied by firefighters throughout the Nation.

"Daniel Groover will be missed by all, but especially by those who knew him best, loved him most, and will remember him simply as husband, a father, colleague and a friend."
