Rep. Jackson Lee today Voted Against The Latest Republican Attempt to Dismantle Affordable Health Coverage and Assault Planned Parenthood

February 2, 2016

Washington, DC – Today, on Groundhog Day, House Republicans voted for the 63rd time to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act, and for the 12th time to attack women’s health care in the 114th Congress alone. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee released the following statement:

“Today I voted against this latest Republican effort to dismantle the Affordable Care Act and defund Planned Parenthood, and called on Republicans to drop their repeated attempts to take away health care from women and hard-working Americans. For too long, the American people have been caught under the shadow of House Republicans’ radical agenda. And on this Groundhog Day, Republicans are celebrating by crawling back to the same old toxic attacks on women’s access to health care and on working families with health insurance.

“Today, House Republicans failed in their Groundhog Day attempt to override the President’s veto of their radical reconciliation bill, which: Defunds Planned Parenthood, leaving millions of American women without key preventive health services – including life-saving cancer screenings, well-woman exams, birth control and advice on family planning; and Destroys the Affordable Care Act, dismantling the newfound health and economic security of millions of working families. According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, the Republican Reconciliation bill would have taken away health insurance from 22 million Americans after 2017.

“The Republican House is stuck on an endless cycle of repeat, voting over and over on a radical agenda that will never become law. The American people cannot afford to relive another Republican Groundhog Day. Rather than wasting time on dead-end votes to attack women’s health and the health care of hard-working families, it is time Congress got to work on creating jobs and growing opportunity for working people.”
