Washington, DC – Many people do not realize that in the service of this nation there are many people – some of them known and some unknown. The United States House of Representatives, the nation and the world see most often the Members of Congress in the House and the Senate. Those are the many voices that people with take note of. It is important however to realize that there is a magnificent team almost like family members that help us serve the American people. Those individuals who mostly go unnamed and maybe by the public unnoticed are our staff.

Today I want to pay tribute to a young brilliant woman who was a valiant servant of the people. I had the privilege of having her work for me as the Deputy Chief Counsel for the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Homeland Security, Terrorism, and Investigations. From the moment we engaged, I knew that I had in my midst a dedicated and loving public servant. She cared about the voiceless, the vulnerable, and those who have been wronged. Tiffany May Joslyn cannot be replaced due to the level of passion and compassion she showed to get our criminal justice system moving in the right direction. I loved her humor and her joy, her love for her family and friends, and her can do attitude that together working with the House Judiciary Committee and all the staff we could do very very good things for all of the people.

So thank you Tiffany for being a servant of the people, exemplifying the great team of staff members that are serving America every day. You were not distracted by obstacles, but you were only guided by the desire to make things better.

Farewell my young dear friend; you have left a legacy of brilliance and commitment to changing our criminal justice laws for the better. We must do so in your honor.

My prayers go out to your family and friends for the loss of you and your brother. Both died in a tragic auto accident last weekend.

Finally, these are not hallow words; you will never ever be forgotten.
