Statement Denouncing Planned Ku Klux Klan Victory Parade in North Carolina
Washington, DC - Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Committees on the Judiciary and Homeland Security Committee and Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security, and Investigations, released the following statement condemning the planned Trump “Victory Parade” in North Carolina by the Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan:
“The Ku Klux Klan has a long and richly deserved reputation as the leading hate group in America. Its legacy is one of racism, anti-Semitism and religious bigotry, violence, and domestic terror. The Klan is motivated by a hateful ideology that is rejected by the vast majority of the American people."
“I join with the Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party and people of goodwill everywhere in condemning the hateful and bigoted extremists who comprise the Ku Klux Klan and call upon its leaders to renounce any plans to hold “victory parade” celebrating the election of the President-Elect. That is not the way to bring about the healing and reconciliation needed to unify our country after such a divisive and racially charged election campaign.”
Congresswoman Jackson Lee is a Democrat from Texas’s 18th Congressional District. She is a senior member of the House Committees on Judiciary and Homeland Security and is Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations.
