CONGRESSWOMAN SHEILA JACKSON LEE ISSUES STATEMENT ON HOUSTON POLICE DEPARTMENT OFFICE RICHARD MARTIN WHO WAS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee issued the following statement after the death of Officer Richard Martin of the Houston Police Department who was killed in the line of duty:

"I am deeply saddened by the death of another Houston Police officer in the line of duty. Our men and woman in blue leave their homes every day not knowing if they will return at the end of their shifts. They willingly place their lives on the line to protect the rest of us.

"Just last week, communities across the United States will came together during National Police Week to honor and remember those law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as the family members, friends and fellow officers they left behind. Next year we will add the name of Richard Martin to the list of police officers who gave their lives for their community. I am praying for Officer Martin's family and HPD as they mourn this loss. All of Houston mourns with them."
