CONGRESSWOMAN SHEILA JACKSON LEE CONGRATULATES TAIWAN ON ITS POSITIVE STEPS THEY HAVE TAKEN IN THE SOUTH CHINA SEA
Washington, DC - Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a Senior Member of the House Homeland Security Committee released the following statement regarding the Taiwanese governments newly constructed Lighthouse and renovated wharf on the Taiping Island:
“On December 12, 2015, the government of the ROC (Taiwan) inaugurated the opening of a renovated wharf and newly constructed lighthouse on Taiping Island, demonstrating Taiwan’s commitment to making Taiping Island a hub of humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and emergency rescue to passing vessels in the South China Sea.
“Earlier in May this year, Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou proposed the South China Sea Initiative, calling on countries in the region to shelve disputes, promote joint resource development, and respect the principles and spirit of all relevant international law. I welcome Taiwan’s peaceful implementation and commitment and look forward to working together to transform the South China Sea into a Sea of Peace and Cooperation.”
