July 15, 2015

Now Congress has a responsibility under the law for a period of 60 days to not play politics but to review this agreement extensively to ensure the safety and security of the American people, our Democratic ally in the Mideast and a nuclear calm among our ally in the Mideast, stated Congresswoman Jackson Lee

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a Senior Member of the House Homeland Security Committee, released the following statement after President Obama announced that the negotiators of the P5+1 nations have reached a nuclear agreement with Iran:

"Although I will be probing this agreement and raising many questions, I believe the president and his diplomatic team have made a major effort towards peace. I will be listening to the administration and pursuing my own research to give this agreement a microscopic review. We should not dismiss this agreement based on our long standing conflict with Iran. Iran should not take the final results of this agreement as any indication that the American people will settle for their shenanigans; their breaking of the agreement and their continued threatening of the region. I want peace. I know America wants peace. I also know the American people deserve safety and security and a Mideast that respects the right for the state of Israel to exist. Further, our other Mideast allies should work with the P5+1 nations to ensure its enforcement and thereby creating security in the region."
