Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee Announces $275,500 grant awarded to Lone Star College – North Harris under the UPWARD BOUND PROGRAM

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee released the following statement announcing today that Lone Star College – North Harris has been awarded a $257,500 grant to implement the Upward Bound Program:

"The Upward Bound Program provides first-generation, disadvantaged, low-income students with the skills and motivation necessary to complete a rigorous program of secondary education and to enter into and successfully complete a degree in postsecondary education. I am pleased to announce today that Lone Star College – North Harris has been awarded a $257,500 grant to implement this outstanding program.

"The grant to the Upward Bound Program will greatly impact individuals in this community from disadvantaged backgrounds. UBP will help students overcome obstacles through the use of college resources leading to an increase in academic performance and providing a smooth transition to college.

"Creating opportunities for disadvantaged students and providing them with the knowledge and tools to excel in academics has always been one of my major priorities. I am thrilled that through the awarding of this grant, Lone Star College – North Harris will be better able to assist students in our community to excel in their academic endeavors."

"I thank the Upward Bound Program for awarding this grant to Lone Star College – North Harris and I am proud to have supported the legislation that authorized the program that made this grant possible."
