CONGRESSWOMAN JACKSON LEE STATEMENT REGARDING TRAGIC FIRE AT SENIOR LIVING CENTER IN TEXAS

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, the Ranking Member of the House Homeland Security Committee Subcommittee on Border and Maritime Security and a Senior Member of the United States' House Judiciary Committee, released the following statement today regarding the fire in a high-rise apartment building for senior citizens that claimed the lives of five persons at the Wedgewood Senior Living Center in Castle Hills, a suburb of San Antonio, Texas on Sunday, December 28, 2014:

"I extend my deepest sympathies and heartfelt prayers to families who lost loved ones yesterday in the tragic fire at Wedgewood Senior Living Center. I commend the first responders whose skill and courage resulted in the saving of more than 75 lives. I am confident that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the fire and that corrective actions will be taken to ensure that a tragedy like this does not happen again."
