How to Enter for the 2014 Art Competition

Do you know someone who has an art peace that you would like to have displayed in the U.S. Capitol?

Well if you do, the 2014 Congressional Art Competition is the way to go! Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has been hosting annual Art Competitions in her district in Houston and would like your help in finding the winning peace to be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol.

So how do you enter?

* First, are you a high school student who lived in the 18th Congressional District of Texas?

** If you don’t know or want to make sure, go to www.House.gov and confirm that you are from Congresswoman Jackson Lee’s district.

* Second, all art works entered in the contest may be up to 32 inches by 32 inches (including the frame) and may be up to 4 inches in depth. The art work may b

** Paintings - including oil, acrylics, and watercolor

** Drawings - including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers

** Collage

** Prints - including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints

** Mixed Media

** Computer Generated Art

** Photography

* Lastly, all entries must be an original in concept, design and execution. Please review the 2014 Art Competition Guidelines for Students and Teachersand follow the Art Submission Checklist to make sure your art peace will be accepted.

Before submitting your work of art, please complete the 2014 Student Information/Release Form.

Important notes:

* For the 2014 Congressional Arts Competition, participating schools are reminded that all entries must be received by April 28, 2014, and may be submitted at the Downtown District office. (Address: 1919 Smith Street Ste. 229 Houston Texas 77002)

* The Winner will be selected on April 30, 2014 and Art Entry will be sent to Washington DC. May 1, 2014

The winners of the 2014 Congressional Art Completion will be flown out to Washington D.C. to be recognized with other winners from around the United States for an annual Congressional awards ceremony in the U.S. Capitol. The winning works will be displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol.

A Little History of the Congressional Art Competition:

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.
