
Houston, Texas- Today, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Chair of the Congressional Children’s Caucus, released the following statement after taking the Texas Education Agency Commissioner, Robert Scott on a tour of Key Middle School. She later hosted a meeting between the TEA Commissioner, North Forest ISD School Administrators and school board members to discuss ways to save the school district.
“Key Middle School continues to be a concern to community leaders, parents and political officials such as myself. It is important that the Texas Education Commissioner have a first hand look at Key Middle school to fully understand the concerns of many in the community still have relating to the safety of our children,” said Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. “As we continue to ensure that Key Middle School is completely safe, other learning facilities throughout Houston also need immediate intervention in order to be an effective resource for our students.”
“North Forest Independent School District is a vital source of education for our children in the Houston Community. For years, there have been many problems plaguing North Forest ISD and we as a community must not allow these issues to take over one of Houston’s most critical educational resources,” stated Congresswoman Jackson Lee. “That is why I have brought together the Texas Education Agency Commissioner and Administrators from the North Forest Independent School District in hopes of creating solutions.”
“In a nation that up holds the value of an education, everyone must understand that we all have a vital role to play in making sure our learning facilities are operating under the best circumstances. As Chair of the Congressional Children’s Caucus, I believe that education is a vital resource for our students and I will continue to work with officials to fortify North Forest ISD as well as ensure that Key Middle School is safe for the sake our children,” concluded Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.
